A large percentage of the population suffers from abnormal wound healing, particularly those with diabetes mellitus. Wound healing in diabetes mellitus is an uncontrolled dynamic process as a consequence of high blood glucose levels. The objective of the work were to briefly describe the physiopathological mechanisms involved in wound healing in diabetes mellitus. For this, a bibliographic review of original articles was carried out in the PubMed database. This study shows that in the healing of diabetic wounds there is an alteration in the processes of inflammation, angiogenesis and tissue remodeling. In addition, it addresses the hyperglycemic states that influence that influence oxidative stress. It is concluded that hyperglycemic states affect wound healing.
